POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  The Head Swim Coach at the Butler YMCA intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined.  The incumbent is responsible for the overall supervision of the Butler YMCA Swim Team – a USA Swimming Program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills a must.
  • Minimum 2 years YMCA or USA coaching experience preferred.
  • Swim Coach Online Certification completion within 30 days of hire.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification as well as Lifeguarding Certification is required.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Responsible for the overall swim team program at the butler YMCA on a year round basis.
  2. Coordinate all aspects of swim meets which include meet sheets, set-up, volunteer recruitment, and overall success of swim meet.
  3. Recruit, train, develop, schedule and direct personnel and volunteers as needed.  Review and assist in evaluating staff performance.
  4. Responsible for staff training and maintaining staff certification requirements.
  5. Establish collaborative relationships with community organizations to create partnerships throughout Butler County.
  6. Actively participate in YMCA events and activities and adhere to the YMCA Core Values.
  7. Assist in marketing and staffing Butler Swim Team program throughout Butler County.
  8. Ensure the YMCA goals of fun, teamwork, sportsmanship and skill development are met on a weekly basis.
  9. Ensure practice and swim meets begin/end on time.
  10. Monitor and evaluate program statistics for their effectiveness and program participation.
  11. Maintain up-to-date swimmers, volunteers and program records (i.e., rosters, attendance, payments, etc.).
  12. Maintain pool areas in regards to equipment, safety, inventory and cleanliness.
  13. Collaborate with the Swim Team Board as well as attend regular board meetings.
  14. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related  to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  15. Be a good role model of the SMART pledge for simmers to emulate.
